The first face-to-face meeting of the ICNB –project in year 2018 was held in Alta, Norway in February 21-22. The event consisted of two days: ICNB Project Management Group (PMG) meeting was held in the premises of The Arctic University of Norway, Alta campus. Hosted by Alta Smart Construction Cluster (SCC) and Alta Kommune, the second day included an open seminar to building and construction experts and companies in the region. With the title “The Real Opportunities and Barriers for BIM as an enabler of Productivity in Construction”, the event included interesting presentations by partners in ICNB-project, company representatives of SCC, Alta Kommune and City of Oulu.
Being twin towns, key civil servants of Alta and Oulu even had one more day and session to plan more ways of collaboration on BIM-based building permit approval and city planning in near future.
All parties seemed to be happy of discussion and the results of the events. One way of collaboration was to make a joint proposal (eg. Woodbuildings) to EU Interreg Nord –program to support using more wood in buildings to develop better methods for multi-story building by timber, CLTs and other wooden products. Key ICNB partners developed an application to Interreg Nord which was sent in for the seventh call of the program.
The Smart Construction Cluster in Alta leader Tor-Arne Bellika concluded the feelings of parties by saying:
“ICNB is a crucial project for the success of Smart Construction Cluster in Alta and our efforts to develop strong regional Smart Construction Cluster nodes in Oulu, Luleå and Tromsø. Having all the leading universities in Arctic Europe working closely with the AECO industry on the digital transformation is a perfect fit for us”.
Besides two working days, the building and construction experts from Sweden, Finland and Norway enjoyed best Alta tourism attractions, such as ice hotel, Northern lights and Sami architecture.
